During a YouTube vlog on Shilo’s channel, titled “Coach Prime Styles Shilo for Court,” he initially searched for courtroom outfits at Cherry Creek Mall in Denver, but found the prices prohibitive. He ultimately chose clothing from his father’s closet, where Deion Sanders helped style him for court.
The bankruptcy trial began on Monday, August 31, 2026, in Denver. The family’s public discussion about attire carried into the day’s events, with a later moment in a restaurant where Shilo joked that Deion had spent most of his life in court.
“Yeah, with your mama,” Deion joked in the same video.
In the video, Shilo and Deion also teased the possibility that Deion’s divorce from Pilar Sanders might still be unresolved, noting that the couple had been technically married for years despite ongoing discussions. Deion later teased Shilo that if he didn’t like the fitted look, he could “go to your mama.”
The well-known legal dispute between Deion Sanders and Pilar Sanders, including custody concerns, has a long history, with prior public discussions dating back to a 2013 case.
The central issue in Shilo Sanders’ bankruptcy case is a question from his past: what happened when he was 15 years old? If a court finds that he willfully and maliciously injured a security guard, the approximately $11.89 million debt could survive bankruptcy. Shilo’s legal team contends that he acted in fear and self-defense.
The incident occurred on September 17, 2015, when Shilo, then 15, was in in-school suspension after using a phone and called Pilar. According to testimony, a security guard, Darjean, attempted to take the phone at Deion’s direction. Shilo reportedly resisted and allegedly injured Darjean, with the guard stating he was struck multiple times and sustained lasting injuries, including nerve damage and spine-related issues.
Shilo’s account maintains that Darjean attacked him first. Darjean sued Shilo, Deion, and Pilar in 2016; the parents were later dismissed from the suit, and Shilo missed the 2022 Dallas civil trial. A default judgment for approximately $11.89 million was entered after the court heard Darjean’s account.
When collection began, Shilo filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in October 2023. While Chapter 7 can discharge many debts, it does not erase debts arising from willful and malicious injury.
Deion Sanders was subpoenaed in August 2026 to participate remotely in the Denver proceedings. The presiding judge indicated that Deion should be available remotely and, on the day of testimony, used a portion of his 2018 video deposition rather than a live appearance.
The trial ran from August 31 through September 4, 2026. Shilo testified that Darjean attacked him and that there was no intent to injure. Darjean testified that he was struck three times and described lasting injuries. Pilar’s concerns were also discussed, with a 2015 phone recording played in court.
With the trial concluding on September 4 and no verdict issued at that time, final written arguments were due after mid-November. A ruling from the court is anticipated later, potentially several weeks or months after the closing of arguments.
