Rams general manager Les Snead confirmed that talks on Stafford’s extension are underway, noting progress but offering no timeline and promising “no drama” as the process continues.
Stafford, who was the NFL Honors MVP in 2026, has signaled his intent to remain with the Rams and the team has kept the door open for him to play beyond 2026, even as they explore a long-term agreement.
With Stafford turning 38 and heading into his 18th NFL season after recent injuries, the Rams are also doing due diligence on the 2026 quarterback class to develop a succession plan. The scouting has included attention to several draft prospects and potential development options.
As part of the process, the Rams allowed Stafford’s camp to gauge trade value with other teams before ultimately moving toward an extension, underscoring the value they place on his performance and leadership while planning for the future.
Even if Stafford continues to play into his late 30s, the Rams appear focused on balancing an extension for him with a longer-term plan at QB, including the possibility of drafting a developmental passer in 2026. Stetson Bennett IV remains the only other quarterback under contract for Los Angeles.
