Despite the designation, there are positive signs surrounding Edwards. He appeared healthy and in good shape at practice this week, and he said he’s down to 218 pounds, the lightest he’s been since college.
Edwards’s late-season availability was inconsistent. He started missing action on March 17 against the Phoenix Suns, sat out six consecutive games, and returned for a March 30 matchup with the Dallas Mavericks. Since then, he has played in only two of seven games.
For the season, Edwards played 61 games with Minnesota, posting averages of 28.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.4 steals per game. He shot 48.9% from the floor and 39.9% from three-point range.
Tip-off for the series opener is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday. If Edwards does not suit up, his next chance to return would come on Monday, April 20, as the Timberwolves aim to contend with the Nuggets in Denver.
Officials and fans will closely monitor Edwards’s status as the game approaches, with his availability likely to influence Minnesota’s rotation and matchup plans.
