Brian Kelly says college football’s growing financial investment is making coaching jobs less secure, as boosters increasingly expect immediate results and accountability. Speaking after his October 2025 firing at LSU, Kelly pointed to Texas Tech booster Cody Campbell’s public criticism following a 37–24 loss to Cincinnati as an example of donors acting like owners. He warned that unpredictable results and intense scrutiny are becoming part of the sport’s new reality.
Kelly has not ruled out returning to coaching and described head-coaching openings at Maryland, NC State, and Baylor as “very attractive.” He highlighted Maryland’s DMV recruiting base and Big Ten profile, NC State’s opportunity to compete for an ACC title, and Baylor’s Texas recruiting access and potential to contend in its conference and reach the playoffs.
**Key Takeaways**
– Kelly believes major booster investment is bringing greater accountability—and pressure—to college football.
– He sees Maryland, NC State, and Baylor as appealing coaching opportunities for different reasons.
– Kelly’s comments carry added weight after his own dismissal from LSU amid high expectations.
