Commanders Release 2 Players
During a period of evaluations, Washington hosted seven players for a tryout on Tuesday. While no signings were disclosed, the team announced the release of two players from the practice squad: outside linebacker D.J. Johnson and cornerback Darius Rush.
Johnson and Rush entered the league in the 2023 NFL Draft but were not with Washington at the time of their release. Johnson was selected in the third round by another franchise and spent three seasons there, appearing in 31 games with five starts and recording 62 tackles and four tackles for loss. Rush was chosen in the fifth round by a different team but did not see action in that initial organization. He later joined the Steelers, where he spent the 2023 and 2024 seasons before joining Washington last year. In the NFL to date, Rush has appeared in six games, with three tackles and one pass deflection, and has not started a game.
