Dak Prescott finished with 175 passing yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. CeeDee Lamb hauled in a touchdown, and Javonte Williams accounted for both a rushing and receiving score. Williams totaled 41 rushing yards on 12 carries and 31 receiving yards, but Dallas struggled to establish the run, averaging 3.8 yards per carry.
A critical late-fourth-quarter moment involved Williams. After his second touchdown trimmed the deficit to eight, the Cowboys were set to attempt a two-point conversion. A penalty altered the scenario and led to a disciplinary review by the NFL before Week 2.
Williams later revealed he was fined by the league for the taunting issue. He said he apologized to his teammates and acknowledged the celebration was out of character, calling the incident his fault and stating he’s better than that.
Under the NFL’s 2026 fines schedule, a first taunting offense carries a $11,941 fine, while a second offense carries a $17,911 fine. The league prohibits taunting acts or words that could provoke ill will between teams.
In addition to Williams’ penalty, Dallas committed nine penalties for 90 yards, and the defense struggled to get off the field. New York converted 81% of its third-down opportunities and scored on four of its five red-zone trips.
With the opener in the books, the Cowboys turn their attention to Week 2, a home showdown against the Washington Commanders. Dallas will need a stronger defensive performance after allowing 394 yards and facing a Giants offense that taxed both the passing game and the running game. Washington also began 0-1, dropping a 24-22 decision to the Philadelphia Eagles, setting up an NFC East clash as both teams seek their first win of the season.
