The organization released Merwin Manrique, according to the MiLB Transactions Log: “DSL Brewers Blue released RHP Merwin Manrique.” Manrique, a 19-year-old pitcher, is 5-foot-10 and 176 pounds, from Venezuela.
Manrique did not have a strong season. He originally signed a minor-league contract with Milwaukee on January 15, 2025. In 2026, he appeared in seven games. Across his minor-league tenure, the data points to control issues. In 16 appearances, Manrique logged 12 strikeouts, a 3.20 WHIP, and a 12.89 ERA, with seven hit batters, 30 walks, and 21 earned runs allowed in 14.2 innings pitched. Put differently, he averaged fewer than one strikeout per appearance, about two walks per game, and roughly one hit-by-pitch per two games. Such numbers raise concerns about command and control, especially at the lower levels of professional baseball.
Despite this setback, Milwaukee has no shortage of pitching talent in the pipeline. The club’s top-10 prospects include several arms, and 10 of their top 30 prospects are pitchers. This depth provides a path to strengthen the pitching staff in the coming years.
While not every prospect develops as hoped, the Brewers’ farm system remains rich with potential arms. Manrique’s departure removes a setback from the roster, but the organization’s long-term pitching outlook remains promising.
