Detroit previously secured Green using Non-Bird rights after initially signing him to a one-year, minimum-salary contract last August. Non-Bird rights allow a team to sign a player for up to 120% of the minimum salary. For this contract, that amount comes to $3,943,679.
Green, who turns 33 later in July, is a well-traveled veteran who has played 345 regular-season games for Boston, Chicago, New Orleans, Cleveland, and Detroit since entering the NBA seven years ago. An undrafted free agent, Green honed his skills in non-NBA leagues in Spain, Italy, and Germany before earning an opportunity with the Celtics in 2019.
Despite his journeyman path, Green has proven to be a valuable fit for Detroit. He was the only Pistons player to appear in all 82 games during the 2025-26 season. Standing 6-foot-5, Green is a versatile defender who contributed 6.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.2 steals in 17.6 minutes per game. He also shot efficiently, posting a .447 field goal percentage, a .381 three-point percentage, and a .840 free-throw percentage, with nearly 60% of his attempts coming from beyond the arc.
As Green returns, he brings continuity and defensive versatility to Detroit’s wings, along with the experience of a player who has navigated multiple teams and roles throughout his NBA career. More developments are expected as the team finalizes its roster for the upcoming season.
