Tolle, a 6-foot-6 left-hander who touched 100 mph, made his MLB debut last year at Fenway Park against Paul Skenes, allowing two runs on three hits over 5 1/3 innings with eight strikeouts.
That performance helped him quickly become a fan favorite in Red Sox Nation due to his velocity and on-mound energy.
This spring, however, Tolle did not join Boston’s major league club and was optioned back to Worcester to begin the season, continuing his development in the minors.
Boston Globe veteran reporter Alex Speier provided an update on Sunday, noting that Tolle was scratched from his scheduled WooSox start on Saturday and was not starting today, as he’s being held back in case the team needs him for a possible doubleheader.
Any Monday start would depend on weather and roster considerations, according to the report, with the decision framed as still in play. Heavy Sports also reported on the broader roster decision surrounding Tolle’s status.
