In a game that featured a productive day at the plate and solid pitching, the Cubs came away with the victory as they look to close out the series in the finale.
Before the first pitch, the Cubs announced a roster move, signing outfielder Dylan Carlson to a minor league contract after he was designated for assignment, bringing him back into the organization and to the Iowa Cubs.
Carlson appeared in three games for the Cubs earlier this season, collecting one run on four at-bats, a small sample that the team will look to supplement as they push for a series sweep.
Carlson was a first-round pick in the 2016 MLB Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals and spent the early portion of his career with the Cardinals. In 2021, he posted a .266 average with 18 home runs and 65 RBIs, highlighting his potential before later stints with the Orioles and the Tampa Bay Rays.
Over parts of seven MLB seasons, Carlson has played in more than 570 games, compiling a .233 batting average with 43 home runs, 195 RBIs, 210 runs scored and 16 stolen bases. The Cubs’ move to add him provides depth as they chase another win and a potential series-clinching performance on Sunday.
