That move comes as the Cubs look to build on Friday’s 12-4 victory over the Mets, in which Nico Hoerner collected three hits and drove in two runs.
Patrick Mooney of The Athletic reported the decision: with Palencia sidelined, Martin will join the Cubs’ bullpen, while Cade Horton is shifted to the 60-day injured list.
Martin, a 2017 second-round pick, has MLB experience with the Houston Astros (2019) and the Arizona Diamondbacks, and spent last season with the Baltimore Orioles, appearing in a career-high 17 games with a 6.00 ERA.
The Cubs hope Martin provides bullpen depth while Horton recovers, as they continue their series against the Mets at Wrigley Field.
