With substantial depth in the infield but limited clear spots, Houston could become a seller at the trade deadline to reset for the future. An infield logjam has lingered since last summer’s Carlos Correa reunion, making Isaac Paredes a logical name to move if the club doesn’t turn its season around.
Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter has identified Paredes as a top trade candidate, with the Milwaukee Brewers as a plausible landing spot if Houston looks to deal. He notes that third base has been a “black hole” for Milwaukee, where newcomers Luis Rengifo and David Hamilton have combined to hit .153/.254/.220 with zero home runs.
Paredes previously delivered a 20-homer season with 53 RBI and posted a .254/.352/.458 line (OPS .809) last year. This year has been tougher for the two-time All-Star, who is hitting .220 with a .639 OPS and no homers through the early slate, suggesting a change of scenery might benefit him if a deal is pursued.
Milwaukee’s situation at third base, plus an opening created by Caleb Durbin’s trade to Boston, provides an avenue for Paredes to land in a role where he could regain value. The Astros could potentially fetch solid prospects in return, helping to position them for 2027 and beyond, given Paredes’ three years of club control remaining.
Ultimately, it remains too early to declare the Astros sellers for April. If they fail to rebound, selling could make sense, but the decision will hinge on standings and how aggressively Houston chooses to pivot around its core. A deal for Paredes would reflect a broader strategic calculation rather than a reaction to a short-term skid.
