In Tuesday’s matchup, Washington pulled out a 5-4 win over Pittsburgh, and Konnor Griffin provided some offense by collecting two hits in four at-bats.
The Pirates have announced their starting lineup for Wednesday, and Griffin will not be in it. He is taking a routine day off and is not expected to be sidelined long.
Projected Pirates lineup (as announced): O. Cruz in center field, B. Lowe at second, B. Reynolds in left, R. O’Hearn in right, M. Ozuna at designated hitter, N. Gonzales at shortstop, S. Horwitz at first, N. Yorke at third, and H. Davis catching. Marcus Montgomery is slated to start on the mound.
Griffin’s absence from the lineup was noted by reporting outlets, who indicated he’s simply handling a routine day off with a return anticipated soon.
Look for Pittsburgh to try to reclaim the series lead behind Montgomery on the mound as they welcome the Nationals to PNC Park.
