Tyrese Haliburton, who tore his Achilles in Game 7 of last year’s Finals, has spent the 2025-26 season sidelined watching a Celtics team that went 19-63 without him. He has followed Tatum’s return closely, citing it as a major story of the league this season.
When asked who he’s rooting for in the playoffs, Haliburton didn’t hesitate: he’s rooting for Jayson and Boston. The two have stayed in regular contact during their recoveries, even appearing on a recent edition of The Pat McAfee Show, with Haliburton saying he’s excited to see Tatum’s playoff run.
Haliburton has also faced personal health challenges beyond the Achilles issue. He revealed he battled shingles that derailed his offseason preparation, explaining it has been “miserable” and required extensive medication and other treatment. He did move forward recently, playing five-on-five for the first time since the injury, reporting that the leg feels fine but the shingles remain the main obstacle.
Tatum’s return has Boston positioned for a deep postseason run. The Celtics will open the first-round series against the winner of the Philadelphia 76ers vs. Orlando Magic play-in matchup, with game one set for mid-April in Boston. Through his comeback, Tatum has shown no hesitancy or rust, continuing to post strong numbers and momentum for the team.
Haliburton will have his own comeback story to write next season, but for now he’s content to watch Tatum lead the Celtics into the playoffs. With a healthy star and improved depth, Boston remains among the league’s most dangerous contenders as the postseason begins.
