Adderley walked away from the NFL in March 2023 while relatively healthy, and since then launched a real estate business while building a career as a certified personal trainer and nutrition coach, training clients at a fitness center and coaching others virtually.
In a social-media post, Adderley wrote that after three years away he’s developed personally but “missed having football in my life—the competition, the brotherhood, and simply being involved in the game that means so much to me and my family.” He added, “Therefore, I am officially announcing my intention to return to the NFL.”
During his four seasons with the Chargers (2019-2022), Adderley appeared in 50 games, recording three interceptions, two fumble recoveries, and 232 tackles (168 solo, 64 assisted). He was selected by the Chargers with the 60th overall pick in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
The Delaware product played college football for the University of Delaware before entering the NFL, where he contributed as a defensive back for four seasons.
Adderley’s announcement signals an uncommon comeback after retirement, with the goal of returning to professional football in 2026 and resuming his NFL career.
