Hackett’s résumé features more than a decade as an offensive coordinator with the Jets (two seasons), Packers (three), Jaguars (three), and Bills (two), along with a previous stint as Broncos head coach. Most recently, he spent the past two seasons as a defensive analyst for Green Bay, but his career has been predominantly on the offensive side of the ball.
In Miami, Hackett will work under offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik, who himself has OC experience with the Houston Texans from 2023 to 2024. Hackett’s extensive NFL background and head-coaching experience could provide valuable game-planning and quarterback-development insight for the Dolphins.
ESPN insider Dan Graziano disclosed the hire on Thursday, noting Hackett’s new role will focus on coaching the Dolphins’ quarterbacks.
Hafley, who has built his reputation as a college coach at Boston College, is shaping Miami’s staff with veteran NFL perspectives to support an evolving offensive system and a quarterback room that will be asked to execute week to week.
The addition could help Miami refine its game plans and quarterback coaching, leveraging Hackett’s comprehensive OC background and prior league experience to aid Slowik and the offense.
