The discussion was reported by ESPN’s Peter Schrager, and the Giants are the second organization to interview Cooter, who previously spoke with the Philadelphia Eagles for their offensive coordinator job.
Cooter, 41, began his NFL coaching career in 2009 as an offensive assistant with the Colts and has since worked for the Chiefs, Broncos, Lions, Jets, Eagles, and Jaguars. He ascended to Colts OC in 2023 when Shane Steichen was hired as head coach.
Sources indicate the Giants and Harbaugh are considering giving Cooter play-calling duties, marking a potential first-time responsibility for him in the NFL. Because Cooter does not call plays for the Colts, his move to New York or Philadelphia would likely be viewed as a promotion.
Indianapolis does face the possibility of losing its offensive coordinator if Cooter earns an offer elsewhere, though no decision has been made. The Eagles have also shown interest, making Cooter a notable candidate for top offensive roles around the league.
The Giants continue to shape their offense as part of Harbaugh’s first offseason in New York. A decision on Cooter’s candidacy—and the team’s OC direction—remains forthcoming.
