Aukerman is a 26-year coaching veteran, with 16 seasons in the NFL. Heβs a native of Ohio who played wide receiver and defensive back at Findlay, earning NAIA All-American honors and a national championship; Findlay inducted him into its Hall of Fame in 2013.
His coaching career began in college, where he spent about a decade at Kent State, Miami University, Western Kentucky and the University of Findlay before moving to the NFL.
Aukermanβs NFL path started in 2010 as a defensive assistant with the Denver Broncos. He joined the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2011, serving as a defensive assistant before moving to the special teams unit in 2012.
The majority of Aukermanβs NFL tenure came with the Tennessee Titans, where he spent seven seasons. He was a special teams assistant in 2017, then the special teams coordinator from 2018 through 2023 while also serving as assistant head coach from 2019-23. During that stretch, the Titans reached the postseason four times and earned two AFC South titles.
Prior to Tennessee, Aukerman spent three years with the Los Angeles Chargers as an assistant special teams coach, and he served as the Ramsβ special teams coordinator in 2024. In 2025, he guided the Dolphins as special teams coordinator, contributing to notable field-goal and return statistics for Miami.
The Falcons are banking on Aukermanβs breadth of experience to boost Atlantaβs special teams units, an area the team has prioritized improving heading into the 2026 season. His track record includes Pro Bowl performers and multiple playoff appearances across his NFL tenure.
