After Kirk’s assassination, the FBI urged Pat McAfee to wear a bulletproof vest.

Pat McAfee was reportedly advised by the FBI to wear a bulletproof vest in the week after Charlie Kirk’s death, according to a report citing an unnamed source. The reported warning adds context to McAfee’s concerns about safety amid years of death threats, though it does not confirm that a specific attack was planned.

McAfee’s concerns resurfaced after the University of Utah posted videos of students mocking him on its official Instagram account. He said the university’s involvement made the jokes feel more troubling, particularly given a recent shooting at Utah Valley University. McAfee indicated he did not plan to return to the Salt Lake City campus with ESPN’s *College GameDay*.

ESPN said the safety of its on-air team, crew, and fans is paramount and expressed support for McAfee. Utah apologized for the social media posts, accepted responsibility, and said McAfee and the *GameDay* crew remained welcome on campus.
