Dalton Declines Eagles Re-Sign
Veteran quarterback Andy Dalton, who began the year with the Eagles after spending time with the Cincinnati Bengals, was cut by the team about ten days prior. Reports indicated the Eagles were interested in bringing Dalton back to add depth to the quarterback room following Hurts’s injury, as Dalton spent the offseason and early part of the season with the organization. Dalton chose to decline the offer and is expected to sign with another team as he pursues the remainder of his 16-year NFL career.
Who Do the Eagles Have?
The team is likely to continue with McKee, who completed 26 of 45 passes for 215 yards and a touchdown in the loss to the Panthers. Philadelphia also has rookie Cole Payton and recently added Joe Milton to the active roster from the practice squad. The hope remains that Hurts can return later in the season if his recovery progresses well. However, the Eagles’ margin for error is narrowing, with their next three opponents all coming from the NFC East.
Dalton’s NFL Career
Now 38 years old, Dalton has built a lengthy career since being drafted by the Bengals in 2011. He’s a three-time Pro Bowler who spent nine seasons in Cincinnati, leading the team to the postseason six times (though they were eliminated in the first round each time). After leaving Cincinnati in 2020, Dalton played for several teams, including the Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears, New Orleans Saints, and the Carolina Panthers, before eventually joining the Eagles.
