Who’s Available at Running Back for the Eagles?
Philadelphia is activating three running backs for the game. Dameon Pierce is the most likely to carry the lead role after handling a heavy workload when Shipley left Week 5 with an injury (a game Barkley was inactive for). Pierce has a strong past, including a 1,000-yard rookie season with the Houston Texans. However, his recent years have seen a decline in production, and he has largely transitioned to a special-teams role.
Carson Steele, who was active last week, will be active again. Steele is a bruising back who previously played for the Kansas City Chiefs, but his NFL rushing efficiency has been limited. He could be relied upon in short-yardage situations, particularly with Hurts unavailable for the quarterback sneak.
Additionally, the Eagles elevated Jaydon Blue from the practice squad for Sunday. Blue, a 2025 draft pick from Texas, has breakaway speed and previously spent time with the Dallas Cowboys. He was with the Cowboys as a rookie but did not secure a long-term spot, and he has spent this season on Philadelphia’s practice squad. Blue represents a wildcard option, as there’s potential that his burst could earn him a more extended look than practice-squad status would suggest.
