Quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who returned from a serious knee injury last December that included an ACL and LCL tear in his left knee, has started the year strong. After five games, he appears to be playing at a high level, continuing a rapid recovery trajectory.
Mahomes spoke to the media following the win over the Chargers, describing his knee as feeling better as the season progresses and noting that while there is still some burst missing, he expects to keep progressing on that front.
Despite Mahomes practicing since training camp and not missing a game, he emphasized that being on the field does not automatically equate to full health in the NFL. The exact timeline for restoring his burst to pre-injury levels remains uncertain, and as players age beyond 30, there are no guarantees they’ll return to their previous peak speed. Nevertheless, his current improvement is a positive sign for the team, and while Mahomes is known for his mobility, his game-changing speed has not always been a defining element of his play.
