Chicago’s running game struggled in the Week 5 loss to Green Bay, gaining just 81 yards on 24 carries and scoring one rushing touchdown. Monangai had suffered a turf toe injury in Week 4 against the New York Jets, which kept him out of a second straight game. D’Andre Swift exited early in the second half against the Packers due to hip and knee issues but was listed as healthy for the upcoming game in Atlanta. Scott had been elevated to the active roster for Week 5 but did not record rushing attempts; he appeared on special teams for nine snaps. Roschon Johnson carried five times for six yards, and wide receiver Luther Burden III rushed four times for two yards.
Scott, a former Minnesota Vikings running back, joined the Bears after the Vikings released him in late August with the plan to add him to their practice squad. He chose Chicago in hopes of securing a stable path to the RB3 role behind Swift and Monangai this season, following the Vikings’ drafting of Demond Claiborne in the sixth round. Last season in Minnesota, Scott totaled 114 rushing yards on 32 carries, plus 14 receptions for 98 yards and one touchdown.
If Swift can return to the RB1 role and if Monangai remains out, the Bears will be counting on Scott to contribute in the backfield. The team also faced challenges in rushing against Green Bay due to injuries and turnover, which could present opportunities for Scott to showcase his abilities against Atlanta.
