During an appearance on The Sage Steele Show in October, Dungy was asked about the possibility of running for political office. While he stated he had no current plans to pursue elected office, his comments hinted at a potential openness to the idea in the future.
“I don’t think there’s a chance. But never say never,” Dungy said. “Politics, given how our process works, is tough to navigate unless you align with a party and advocate for its platform. I’m not sure I could do that, because I value independence and I intend to stand for what I believe, including the teachings I live by.”
Dungy, a devout Christian, has long been outspoken about his faith and his pro-life stance. This has fueled public speculation that his beliefs may have influenced NBC’s decision to part ways. During the interview, he addressed questions about whether his religious views or other stances outside football played a role in NBC’s move.
“Television often seeks broad appeal, and sometimes speaking about faith can complicate that,” Dungy explained. “I’ll always be open about my faith, and I’ll try to express it respectfully, but people will know where I stand. That part isn’t going to change.”
Although not formally affiliated with a political party, Dungy has shown support for various causes and figures over the years. He publicly endorsed a former NBC colleague during a 2026 U.S. Senate campaign in Minnesota and also participated in political campaigning on other issues.
In discussing his departure from NBC, Dungy acknowledged it was difficult to process the decision to go in a different direction, even though he anticipated such moves in the industry. He noted that long tenures at a single network aren’t always the norm, and felt the shift was a natural part of career evolution.
Since leaving NBC, Dungy has not signed another television contract nor resumed coaching. He launched a new digital media and content venture called Road to Sunday in September. The venture focuses on player interviews, lifestyle content, and personal interactions among sports figures, expanding his presence beyond traditional broadcasting.
This new chapter shows Dungy pursuing varied opportunities while continuing to share insights drawn from his extensive experience in football and leadership, as he maps out future plans beyond the field.
