Valdes-Scantling Returns to Face KC
Former Chiefs wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling signed with the Chargers just over a month ago as Los Angeles’ wideout group has battled injuries. He has appeared in three games this season, recording two receptions on five targets for 22 yards. At 6-foot-4 with 4.28-second 40-yard dash speed, Valdes-Scantling has long shown upside. He spent two seasons with Kansas City (2022-2023), where his play varied as the role and targets fluctuated.
During his first year with the Chiefs, Valdes-Scantling posted a career-best 42 receptions for 687 yards and two touchdowns. He played a significant role in the 2022 AFC Championship Game, recording six receptions for 116 yards and a touchdown. His second year in Kansas City was uneven, with drops at times, though he redeemed himself in the postseason by delivering the game-sealing catch in the AFC Championship and catching a touchdown in Super Bowl LVIII.
Chiefs Could Be Short-Handed at WR
Kansas City will be without Tyquan Thornton for most or all of the regular season after he dislocated his ankle in Week 4, removing a key deep-threat option from the lineup. Rashee Rice has not practiced this week and is in danger of missing Sunday’s game against Los Angeles. If Rice is unavailable, the Chiefs would rely on Xavier Worthy, Cyrus Allen, and Nikko Remigio, with potential practice squad call-ups possible to bolster the receiving corps. Eligible options include Andrew Armstrong, Omari Evans, and Justin Watson, the latter having rejoined the team recently after previously playing for KC.
