Barkley started his tenure with the Eagles by delivering a standout season in 2024, becoming one of only a few players in NFL history to rush for 2,000 yards in a single season. He also earned NFL Offensive Player of the Year honors and helped guide the team to its second Super Bowl title. The Eagles rewarded him with a two-year, $41.2 million contract extension, marking him as the first running back with an average annual salary over $20 million.
Since that peak, Barkley’s production has declined. In 2025, he rushed for 1,140 yards as the team exited in the NFC Wild Card Round. Through the first four games of the 2026 season, he has just 182 rushing yards and no touchdowns, with two appearances cut short by injuries.
