ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler reported that the league’s investigation is ongoing and a ruling could come soon. “A four-to-six-game suspension could be the range based on a few people I’ve talked to in the league, but that’s fluid and based on the league’s findings,” Fowler wrote.
Jacobs has been on the NFL’s Commissioner’s Exempt List since Aug. 30. On Sept. 10, he pleaded no contest to misdemeanor battery and criminal damage to property charges tied to a May incident involving his former girlfriend. “I fully understand the seriousness of the situation, and I take full responsibility,” Jacobs said at the hearing.
Suspension timeline and impact on Packers
If the NFL credits the Week 1 absence toward a suspension, a four-game ban would cover three additional games: Packers at Jets on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET, Falcons at Packers on Sept. 24, and Packers at Buccaneers on Oct. 4. Jacobs would then return for Bears at Packers on Oct. 11.
A six-game suspension would add the Bears game and Cowboys at Packers on Oct. 18, pushing his return to Packers at Lions on Oct. 25.
Replacing Jacobs in Green Bay
MarShawn Lloyd, a 2024 third-round pick from USC, led the team with 13 carries for 37 yards (2.8 yards per carry) in a 39-22 loss at Minnesota. Chris Brooks ran seven times for 29 yards but played 37 snaps to Lloyd’s 30 because he handled passing downs. Kaleb Johnson, acquired from the Steelers at the roster cutdown deadline, did not see an offensive snap.
Coach Matt LaFleur indicated that Lloyd, at 5-foot-9 and 220 pounds, has shown confidence and the ability to handle the lead role. Lloyd could be the top option if Jacobs is sidelined, while Brooks may be more valuable in passing-down and receiving-heavy formats. Johnson remains a depth option and may remain off the main lineup for now.
Green Bay offense outlook without Jacobs
In the first game without Jacobs, quarterback Jordan Love directed the offense, completing 21 of 42 passes for 387 yards and two touchdowns against the Vikings. Lloyd and Brooks combined for 20 carries, even with Green Bay leading 22-10 entering the third quarter. Wide receivers Christian Watson and Matthew Golden contributed big plays, with Watson posting six receptions on eight targets for 147 yards and two touchdowns, and Golden adding six catches on 12 targets for 95 yards.
With only one game played, the backfield remains uncertain, and no Packers running back has emerged as a clear every-down engine. Lloyd would be the primary flex option in fantasy formats if he handles the majority of early-down work. Brooks could be valuable in non-PPR formats or in lineups that reward passing-down duties, while Johnson may be more suitable for the waiver wire for now.
Fantasy football guidance
– If you have Jacobs on your roster, keep him. If the league credits time on the Commissioner’s Exempt List toward suspension, expect a return between Weeks 5 and 7.
– In daily fantasy and season-long lineups, monitor how Green Bay utilizes Lloyd, Brooks, and Johnson in the absence of Jacobs. Lloyd leads in carries, Brooks has a significant passing-down role, and Johnson could be a depth option.
– Once Jacobs returns, he should reclaim a primary role, making him a valuable fantasy asset again.
Overall, the Packers’ backfield is in flux, and managers should stay patient while monitoring how the team distributes carries and targets in Jacobs’s absence.
