Schottenheimer pointed to linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, who wore the communication “green dot,” as being insufficiently decisive and loud in his calls. He emphasized three elements: decisiveness and loudness in the person delivering the call, clarity in how the call is received, and the need for better reception. “There should be hand signals that show information being received. We need to be better,” he said.
In the wake of Overshown’s injury in the season opener, the coaching staff announced a change in responsibility for the green dot. Third-round rookie Jaishawn Barham will assume the role for the upcoming divisional matchup against the Washington Commanders. Schottenheimer had previously indicated confidence in Barham, describing him as a loud communicator who would handle the responsibility well. He also noted that the team has other options to consider as well.
The Cowboys’ next game against Washington is scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET on Fox.
