On the interior line, the team hosted a visit with 33-year-old guard Lucas Patrick. Patrick is a 11-year veteran who has appeared in 113 NFL games since entering the league in 2017. Most of his career has been spent with the Green Bay Packers, with additional time spent with the Chicago Bears, New Orleans Saints, and Cincinnati Bengals. He spent the 2026 training camp and preseason with the New York Giants but did not make the regular-season roster and has been a free agent since late August.
Patrick’s background includes joining the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2016 and debuting in Week 2 of the 2017 season. He spent three seasons as a reserve interior lineman for the Packers before starting 15 games at right guard in 2020. Since then, his time has primarily been at center, including starting 15 games for the Bears in 2023. In the 2024 season, he appeared in six games with one start for the Bengals. Patrick brings versatility across the interior line, having logged more than 1,000 regular-season snaps at left guard, center, and right guard, though he has limited experience at tackle.
In addition to Patrick’s visit, the Commanders held seven player tryouts ahead of Week 2, covering four linebackers, two tight ends, and one defensive end.
Tight ends were evaluated as part of the group, with Devin Culp and Rivaldo Fairweather participating. Fairweather, who entered the league as an undrafted free agent last year, previously spent time with the Arizona Cardinals after a stint with the Dallas Cowboys.
At linebacker, the squad hosted Jahfari Harvey, Emany Johnson, Marvin Jones, and Anfernee Orji for tryouts. Johnson previously spent time with the Dallas Cowboys, while Orji had a recent stint with the New York Giants. Harvey joined the Raiders as an undrafted rookie last year and appeared in two games. Marvin Jones is a rookie who did not hear his name called in the draft, and he spent training camp with Seattle.
Defensive end prospect Benton Whitley also tried out. Whitley entered the NFL as an undrafted player in 2022 and has since been with several franchises, including the New York Giants, Arizona Cardinals, Los Angeles Rams, Kansas City Chiefs, Minnesota Vikings, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Cleveland Browns.
Looking ahead, the Commanders are set to face the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2 on Sunday, September 20, aiming to rebound after opening the season with a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
