Allen was evaluated for a concussion after absorbing a hard hit with 8:52 remaining in the third quarter. The Rams trailed 17-7 at the time, and Allen had just converted a first down on a rushing play before the impact. He immediately went to the ground, briefly appeared to assume a fencing response, and stumbled as he attempted to rise. He was escorted to the blue medical tent and then carted off to the locker room for further evaluation.
Allen had been listed as questionable to return. Losing him would remove a key piece from the Rams’ tight end rotation.
The 25-year-old entered the season coming off what was the most productive year of his NFL career. In 2025, he appeared in all 17 games for Los Angeles, recording 24 receptions for 208 yards and three touchdowns. He also contributed as a blocker alongside veteran Tyler Higbee, providing depth to the Rams’ tight end corps.
If Allen is sidelined beyond Thursday, the Rams will rely more heavily on Higbee and the remaining tight ends to fill the gap in the rotation.
This play followed notable injuries on the 49ers side as well. San Francisco rookie wide receiver De’Zhaun Stribling was ruled out earlier with an ankle injury, and tight end Jake Tonges exited with a knee issue. The Rams now face a similar situation at tight end and will await a confirmed diagnosis to determine the impact on their lineup.
The Rams opened the season with a 27-7 defeat to their NFC West rivals. They are slated to return to action at home against the New York Giants on Sept. 21.
