Garrett wasn’t the only option the Rams considered. Behind the scenes, the team explored a number of edge-rushing targets in free agency and via trade before finalizing the deal with Cleveland.
NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero discussed the Rams’ approach on The Rich Eisen Show, noting that Los Angeles evaluated several premier edge players this offseason. In addition to Garrett, the Rams kept tabs on Maxx Crosby, who remained with the Las Vegas Raiders after a high-profile trade attempt with Baltimore fell through in March due to concerns about Crosby’s knee after a January procedure.
Pelissero indicated there was a real possibility Crosby could have ended up in Los Angeles, had circumstances aligned differently.
This isn’t the first time the Rams pursued Crosby. In 2022, reports indicated Los Angeles made a strong offer for Crosby while also pursuing other pass-rush options, includingBrian Burns, but neither move came to fruition at that time.
Crosby also came close to a departure from the Raiders this year when Baltimore agreed to send two first-round picks to Las Vegas in a potential deal. The trade collapsed after Crosby failed his physical, and Raiders general manager Eric DeCosta withdrew the offer.
As of now, Crosby remains with the Raiders, and with Garrett in his new home in Los Angeles, another Rams pursuit of Crosby appears unlikely in the near term.
