Jones has fully recovered from a torn right Achilles suffered last December against the Jacksonville Jaguars and is cleared to play. Nevertheless, Richardson will remain on the roster as an insurance policy behind Jones.
Richardson was selected fourth overall in the 2023 NFL Draft but has not yet met the expectations the organization had for him. In 17 games across three seasons, he has accumulated 2,400 passing yards, 11 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions.
Colts 2026 season outlook
The Colts aim to move past last season, which began with promise after an 8-2 run but concluded with seven straight losses, finishing at 8-9. Jones also had a strong season prior to his injury, recording 3,101 passing yards, 19 touchdowns, and eight interceptions in his first year with the Colts after six seasons with the New York Giants.
The Colts’ 2026 schedule starts on Sept. 13 with a matchup against the Baltimore Ravens, a game set for a 1 p.m. ET kickoff.
