The sanction followed a viral exchange between Stillman and Titans quarterback Cam Ward regarding Ward’s preseason performances. The development was first reported by Titans beat reporter Paul Kuharsky.
During a post-practice press conference, Stillman asked Ward how he would evaluate his preseason play. Ward countered with a question of his own about Stillman’s assessment, and the exchange escalated. Ward ultimately offered his own perspective, saying he evaluates performance by whether the team wins or loses and by identifying concrete areas for improvement. He noted that preseason play operates at a different pace and emphasis, stressing that the team has been tightening the playbook and that Week 1 should present a different dynamic.
Stillman later confirmed Kuharsky’s report, posting on X that the Titans had contacted him and barred him from practices and press conferences. While he acknowledged the team’s decision, he expressed disagreement with it.
The Titans’ 2026 season opener is scheduled for September 13, with a 1 p.m. ET kickoff against the New York Jets.
