As the September 1 transfer deadline approaches, all 20 Premier League clubs are working in the background on potential deals, with numerous players likely to be involved in last-minute moves in the coming days.
One of those players could be Zirkzee, a United forward who has fallen out of favour. On August 27, reports emerged that Fiorentina were progressing in talks over a potential loan move for the Dutchman. Serie A clubs have previously shown interest, with Juventus and Como among those linked. Zirkzee enjoyed success in Italy with Bologna before arriving at United in 2024.
Meanwhile, Rashford’s future continues to be a topic of speculation, even after he made his first competitive appearance for United in 14 months when introduced as a second-half substitute during a 2-0 defeat to Hull City on August 22.
Should Rashford or Zirkzee depart, United would be left light in attack, presenting a challenge for head coach Michael Carrick and the club’s new ownership. Reports from Teamtalk’s Graeme Bailey indicate that Atletico Madrid forward Alexander Sorloth has been offered to United through intermediaries as a potential option. Bailey notes that Sorloth, who is open to leaving Atletico and has previously played for Crystal Palace, could provide a genuine central option and an alternative to other striking targets such as Benjamin Sesko.
Sorloth, 30, has rebuilt his career after his stint at Crystal Palace, finding form with Trabzonspor, Real Sociedad, Villarreal, and currently Atletico Madrid, where he has scored 44 times in 107 appearances. He typically operates as a central striker but was utilized on the right wing during the 2026 World Cup. His contract with Atletico runs until 2028.
There have also been reports that Jonathan David, the Juventus forward, has been offered to United, with talks exploring a potential deal that could involve Sorloth and Nico González in an exchange, though those negotiations are complex and ongoing.
United are set to return to Premier League action at home against Ipswich Town on August 30.
