Among the early voices making bold claims is NFL Network’s Steve Wyche, who shared thoughts on Jim Rome’s show about why Denver might be the early frontrunner in the conference.
Wyche highlighted quarterback Bo Nix’s potential for growth, noting the ongoing collaboration with Davis Webb, who has served as Nix’s position coach in recent years and is now calling plays as the Broncos’ offensive coordinator under head coach Sean Payton. Wyche pointed to the supporting cast as a major factor in Denver’s outlook, mentioning standout talents such as Jaylen Waddle at wide receiver, Courtland Sutton, and Evan Engram, along with a solid offensive line. In Wyche’s view, these elements collectively position the Broncos as the team to beat in the AFC, suggesting they could have represented the conference in the playoffs last season if not for Nix’s injury.
Last season, Denver advanced to the AFC Championship Game but fell to the New England Patriots at home. Nix suffered a dislocated right ankle against the Buffalo Bills in the divisional round, which sidelined him for the pivotal matchup against New England. With Nix fully healthy heading into the 2026 season, Denver aims to push further and capitalize on the momentum built by their near-make-a-run the previous year.
Looking ahead, the Broncos’ 2026 campaign opens against the Kansas City Chiefs on September 14. The game is scheduled for an 8:15 p.m. ET kickoff and will be televised on ESPN/ABC.
