Through 84 games, the 27-year-old Dominican standout has posted a .283 batting average, a .408 on-base percentage, a .947 OPS, along with 21 home runs and 52 RBIs. While his individual production has been strong, the team’s results have not mirrored that success, and Soto has been fighting to return to the field with the commitment he’s demonstrated to the franchise.
Ahead of Wednesday’s matchup with the Milwaukee Brewers, Soto appeared on the field participating in live batting practice. Afterward, interim manager Andy Green told reporters that Soto is continuing to advance in his running and swing work.
Reports from Chelsea Janes of SportsNet New York indicated that the target return date is September 1. As with any late-season return from injury, the timeline remains fluid and could shift if Soto’s progression warrants it.
Even with Soto nearing a comeback, the Mets are effectively out of the playoff picture, sitting more than 10 games behind the final wild-card spot. His return would not only provide a spark for the stretch run but also bring renewed excitement to the fanbase as the team eyes a roster reshaping this offseason to attempt a deeper push in 2025.
