The 21-year-old Danish defender, who can also operate as a winger, has established himself as a key member of the Manchester United first team under manager Michael Carrick. Carrick has utilized Dorgu as a left winger option alongside Matheus Cunha in the latter part of the 2025-26 season, showcasing his versatility and value to the squad.
Dorgu first caught the eye during Carrick’s early spells as interim head coach in January, though he missed the following ten fixtures due to a hamstring injury. He returned to action later that season, contributing to United’s efforts across multiple competitions.
During a recent interview, Dorgu, speaking with ESPN, was asked which United first-team player would most likely win in a 100-meter sprint. While he backed himself to come out on top, he acknowledged that teammates Bryan Mbeumo and Joshua Zirkzee would be strong contenders. He noted Zirkzee’s long stride could present a challenge, but he remained confident in his own speed, saying, “I’ll back myself to come first, yeah.”
Dorgu has been building momentum ahead of the new season, participating actively in pre-season activities following Denmark’s disappointing campaign and World Cup qualification outcomes. He has been deployed on the wing during United’s summer tour, featuring in matches against Wrexham and Rosenborg. In the opening game against Wrexham, he played the first half before being substituted at halftime, and he then logged 60 minutes in the Rosenborg fixture. Dorgu came close to scoring against Rosenborg, with a shot hitting the post during the match at the Lerkendal Stadion.
As United continues with pre-season preparations, Dorgu’s pace, versatility, and goal-threat remain notable assets as he aims to solidify his position and contribute significantly to the squad’s objectives for the upcoming season.
