The Ocoee Knights publicly welcomed Watkins as their new Wide Receivers Coach, highlighting his experience as a dynamic playmaker and a competitor at every level of football. Ocoee High School’s football program, known as the Knights, finished the 2025 season with a 6-5 record and earned a spot in the FHSAA Class 7A playoffs, where their run ended in the regional quarterfinals. With Watkins joining the staff, the Knights hope his NFL and Clemson experience will contribute to player development, strengthen the squad, and improve overall performance.
Watkins was selected fourth overall by the Buffalo Bills in the 2014 NFL Draft. His professional journey also included stints with the Los Angeles Rams starting in 2017 and the Kansas City Chiefs from 2020, where he earned his first Super Bowl title. Across nine NFL seasons, he accumulated 364 receptions for 5,179 yards and 34 touchdowns.
Watkins enjoyed an outstanding collegiate career at Clemson. In 2013, he set Clemson’s single-season records with 101 receptions for 1,464 yards and 12 touchdowns, records he still holds. Over three seasons at Clemson, he totaled 240 receptions, 3,391 receiving yards, and 27 touchdowns, cementing his place among the program’s all-time top receivers.
These accomplishments drew attention from Clemson’s head coach Dabo Swinney, who discussed the possibility of Watkins returning to Clemson as a coach. Before Watkins’ induction into Clemson’s Hall of Fame in 2024, Swinney noted that they had discussed the idea of him returning to help the program in the future, though timing and commitments had to be considered.
Watkins’ path from college to the NFL, and now to coaching, has been marked by setbacks and comebacks. He faced multiple injuries throughout his career, including during his Clemson days, and continued to persevere through various setbacks in the NFL. His resilience has shaped his approach as he begins coaching high school players, aiming to instill the same determination and work ethic that propelled him to professional success.
