Terrell Owens calls A.J. Brown exit unfortunate after rift with Hurts. Informative update.

A.J. Brown spent four seasons turning his stint with the Philadelphia Eagles into a personal highlight reel. His electrifying pairing with quarterback Jalen Hurts helped the team clinch a Super Bowl victory in his second year with the franchise. By 2026, however, the partnership with Hurts had fractured enough for Brown to seek a fresh start. Former Eagles wide receiver and six-time Pro Bowler Terrell Owens reflected on the breakdown.

“I think I’m just like everybody else; it’s unfortunate,” Owens told a sports radio host. “At the end of the day, two teammates can’t get along, and obviously management. Everybody can’t rectify the situation; somebody has to. I think he did what was best for him.”

A.J. Brown is officially with another team. The Eagles traded him to the New England Patriots for a 2028 first-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick on June 2. Brown gets a new start, while the Eagles free up cap space in the process.

Brown and Hurts were once seen as inseparable. Their connection dates back to college days, with Hurts trying to recruit Brown to Alabama. Teammates reportedly referred to them as an “old married couple.” Brown even chose Hurts to be his daughter’s godfather.

Then came the 2025 season, which brought a steady stream of frustration from Brown. His numbers dipped, and he spoke openly about his displeasure with the team on social media. During a livestream, he referred to the team’s situation with harsh language and later commented about his own usage while playing video games.

When questioned about the remarks, Brown didn’t back down, saying the situation spoke for itself and that, if one looked closely, the frustration was evident.

In 2024, the standout season of Saquon Barkley reduced the number of passes Brown received, limiting his production to 67 receptions for 1,079 yards. The following season was not notably more productive, with 1,003 yards on 78 catches, marking his lowest yardage total since 2021. Rumors about the dynamic with Hurts impacting Brown’s role had circulated for some time.

This summer, in May, Hurts was reportedly absent from Brown’s wedding, and none of his Eagles teammates were present, according to reports. Former Eagles cornerback Darius Slay attended, drawing attention to the absence of others.

Nevertheless, Brown stated that there is no bad blood between him and Hurts.

“Not as close as we once were,” Brown said on a podcast. “There is still a lot of love. I love him. We haven’t been as close as we were for a couple years now, and that didn’t stop anything.”

Regardless of public statements, it’s evident that the once-strong relationship between Brown and Hurts has run its course.
