The Bulls welcomed Claxton with a post on social media, expressing enthusiasm about adding him to the roster. Hours later, the Nets also acknowledged Claxton’s departure, sharing a farewell message to thank him for his contributions to Brooklyn.
The four-team trade involved the Nets, Charlotte Hornets, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Chicago. The Hornets received substantial draft compensation along with Naz Reid, Mo Gueye (from Chicago), and the draft rights to Matteo Spagnolo. The Timberwolves acquired LaMelo Ball, Josh Green, and a draft pick that became Isaiah Evans. Brooklyn sent Julius Randle and the selection that became Joshua Jefferson to the Bulls. Chicago, meanwhile, received Claxton.
Nic Claxton’s NBA career began in 2019 after being selected 31st overall out of Georgia. He has spent his career with Brooklyn, appearing in 380 games and starting 297 of them. Over his time with the Nets, Claxton has been recognized for his defensive presence, while posting career averages of 10.6 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game on a 62.2% shooting rate from the field. In the most recent season, Claxton averaged 11.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game over 69 appearances.
At 27 years old, Claxton joins a Bulls team in a rebuilding phase. He signed a four-year contract worth approximately $97 million in 2024, with the Bulls set to pay him about $23.3 million for the 2026-2027 season and then $21.0 million for the 2027-2028 season.
This move brings Claxton into a new environment with a team aiming to climb back into contention, adding a veteran presence and interior defense to the Bulls’ lineup as they reshape their roster for the coming seasons.
