Umude hails from Portland, Oregon, and played college basketball for South Dakota and Arkansas. He became eligible for the 2022 NBA Draft but went undrafted. The Detroit Pistons signed him to an Exhibit 10 contract, and he initially didn’t secure a permanent Pistons roster spot. He joined the Pistons’ G-League affiliate at one point and later signed a 10-day contract with Detroit in February 2023, appearing in one game.
In the following season, Umude earned a two-way contract with the Pistons, which was later converted into a standard NBA deal.
