Notable field developments
– A number of well-known players earned exemptions into The Open but will not be competing this year. Sergio Garcia, for example, did not qualify for the championship.
– Other established names who have exemptions but are not in the field include Paul Lawrie, Justin Leonard, John Daly, Tiger Woods, Todd Hamilton, Ben Curtis, Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els, and Zach Johnson.
– Additional spots remain available as part of Open Qualifying processes. The highest-finishing player not already exempt at the Genesis Scottish Open will earn a spot through the Open qualifying series.
– An extra place will be allocated via the inaugural Last Chance Qualifier, scheduled to be held at Royal Birkdale on the Monday of Open Championship week. Twelve players will compete for the final berth.
– If the field does not reach 156 participants after these qualifiers, The R&A will fill remaining spots from its reserve list based on the Official World Golf Ranking.
Overall, the field features a strong mix of major champions, rising stars, and seasoned veterans, all converging at Royal Birkdale for a premier test of skill, strategy, and endurance. The Open promises to deliver compelling golf as players contend for one of the sport’s most prestigious titles.
