Carmelo Anthony believes there should be little hesitation. Speaking on 7PM in Brooklyn, the 10-time All-Star made a clear case for why James should consider heading to the Bay Area if he is pursuing one more championship.
“I would love to see [LeBron] just go, him and Steph. They’ve wanted to do it for a while. They’ve been on the Olympic team. Just go out there,” Anthony said.
Anthony argued that the pairing goes beyond two superstars. He highlighted the chemistry James and Curry already displayed while helping Team USA win Olympic gold, suggesting that the partnership has been forming for years rather than being a last-minute plan.
Then Anthony posed a question that seemed directed at James: “Like, why not? Because what other situation are you gonna go to?”
He narrowed the potential destinations where James could end his career strongly to three teams: the Cleveland Cavaliers, San Antonio Spurs, and the Warriors, while acknowledging that the Spurs might not be pursuing him.
While several prominent teams could potentially land LeBron James, there are also some less likely options to consider. Since it appears James is not chasing a max contract, many front offices could reach out in hopes of luring him.
Carmelo Anthony also discussed why the New York Knicks might not be the best fit for James. He suggested that, despite the Knicks’ recent championship, adding James may not be necessary. He noted that Mitchell Robinson’s departure leaves a need for frontcourt depth behind Karl-Anthony Towns, pointing out that the Knicks already have strong wing players in Mikal Bridges, OG Anunoby, and Josh Hart, with Landry Shamet expected to re-sign.
Jalen Brunson remains the primary ballhandler, scorer, and clutch option for the team. If he needs a breather, backup guards such as Tyler Kolek and Jose Alvarado could step in. While this structure could allow James to fit as a versatile playmaker, the Knicks would need to weigh whether altering the team’s chemistry for a potential generational addition is worth considering, especially as they pursue another title run.
