Drafted 15th overall in 2005, Johnson quickly became a pillar of the Chiefs’ defense, totaling 1,154 tackles in Kansas City and establishing himself as a durable, every-down contributor from his first season onward.
Johnson’s on-field arc included multiple 100-tackle seasons, beginning in 2010 and occurring in four of the next five campaigns. He faced adversity in 2014 with a torn Achilles in Week 1, missed time, and then dealt with another Achilles injury in 2016, before returning to form in subsequent seasons, including a 2015 campaign that saw 116 tackles.
Over his 14-year career, Johnson accumulated 1,171 total tackles, 27.5 sacks, 77 passes defended, 14 interceptions (four returned for touchdowns) and 23 forced fumbles, with a ceremonial one-day retirement with the Chiefs marking the end of his playing days in 2019.
Johnson’s induction adds him to a lineage of notable Chiefs Hall of Famers and comes in the context of a franchise that has long celebrated its defensive stalwarts. He played alongside peers such as Tamba Hali, who entered the Chiefs Hall of Fame in 2024, and sits among other potential candidates for future honors, including safety Eric Berry, running back Jamaal Charles, and quarterback Alex Smith.
