Purdy is an Arizona native, and Christian Kirk—now 29 and entering his NFL prime—spent the 2018–2021 seasons with the Arizona Cardinals to begin his career. That shared geography helped Purdy feel a personal connection to Kirk, whom he says he followed closely as he grew up in the state.
Speaking with the media on April 20, Purdy said he’s excited to reunite with Kirk in a 49ers offense that could use his slot-threat versatility, calling Kirk “very smart” and noting his leadership, maturity, and competitive fire. Purdy suggested Kirk will be a valuable addition to both the receiver room and the locker room.
Purdy also highlighted Kirk’s familiarity with the role and the offense, expressing confidence that Kirk’s experience and football IQ can help ease younger receivers and improve overall efficiency at multiple levels of the depth chart.
Health will be a key factor, but Purdy’s new weapons give the Niners reason to believe their passing game can be more dynamic than a year ago. If Purdy stays healthy and continues to mature as a scorer and distributor, the offense could reach a higher ceiling.
Fullback Kyle Juszczyk has argued that Purdy doesn’t receive the respect he deserves, praising his consistent play and relentless competitiveness. Juszczyk described Purdy as “the dude,” sharing anecdotes of off-field competitions in which Purdy pushes teammates, underscoring the quarterback’s strong competitive edge.
With Evans and Kirk in the fold, Purdy enters the season with a deeper and more versatile receiving corps. His ability to stay healthy and meshing with the new targets will largely determine how quickly the offense returns to its peak form.
