Mets’ 10-game losing streak stretches to double digits and ties for the 12th-longest in franchise history, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com.
After the latest loss, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza addressed reporters with an unusually blunt message to the fan base, saying fans “have all the right to be pissed and frustrated… I understand how they’re feeling. I’d be pissed too if I’m a fan. I’m pissed. They’re pissed.”
Mendoza is in his third season guiding the Mets, carrying a 179-166 record in 345 games and one playoff appearance in his first two campaigns.
Ahead of the game, a note from @just_mets summarized the club’s hot-and-cold vibes under David Stearns and Mendoza: First 59 games were 24-35, then 172 games at 110-62, and the last 113 games at 45-68.
The Mets currently sit last in the National League East with a 7-14 record through 21 games, including a 4-8 mark on the road.
With the series against the Cubs continuing, New York will look to halt the slide and regain momentum as they push to climb back in the standings.
