To bolster depth amid injuries, Chicago announced the signing of left-hander Ty Blach to a minor league contract, with a likely assignment to the Iowa Cubs.
Blach, 35, last appeared in an MLB game in 2024 and was a fifth-round pick in the 2012 draft. He spent the early part of his career with the San Francisco Giants, including a 2018 season in which he went 6-7 with a 4.25 ERA in 47 games (13 starts).
Following his time with the Giants, Blach had a stint with the Baltimore Orioles, missed the 2020 season, and most recently played for the Colorado Rockies from 2022-24.
Des Moines Register reporter Tommy Birch noted Blach’s signing and assignment to the Iowa Cubs, though no official word had been released at the time.
The Cubs have dealt with a notable number of injuries this season, underscoring their need for veteran depth in both the rotation and on the mound.
As the Phillies series unfolds, Wednesday’s game will offer Chicago a chance to grab a series lead and continue building momentum.
