Jordan Hancock, a fifth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, could have a bigger role in Buffalo’s reshaped defense, but a shoulder injury that required surgery this offseason has created a setback in his development.
Hancock arrived as a safety/cornerback hybrid and primarily lined up at safety in 13 games last season, totaling 22 tackles. The previous regime kept him on the field only when extra defensive backs were needed.
With Joe Brady and the new coaching staff, Buffalo wants to identify Hancock’s best position to avoid stalling his growth by using him at two spots for an extended period.
Beane disclosed that Hancock underwent shoulder surgery to clean up the injury and is currently rehabbing. If his timeline holds, he could miss part of the spring workouts, complicating the early-position assessment ahead of training camp.
Shoring up the secondary remains a priority for the Bills this offseason, and Hancock remains part of that plan as the team shifts toward the 2026 NFL Draft.
