Nembhard, a 22-year-old point guard from Gonzaga, went undrafted and signed a two-way deal before earning the upgrade to a standard contract. Through 38 appearances this season, he has averaged 6.7 points, 4.9 assists, and 1.8 rebounds in about 18.8 minutes per game, with shooting splits of roughly 42% from the field and 37% from three.
The conversion comes as the Mavericks continue to evaluate younger players amid a challenging season, sitting at 21-38. Nembhard’s increased role offers another chance to showcase his progress and potential at the NBA level.
Nembhard’s development has included 17 starts this year, and the new deal provides stability as Dallas weighs off-season contract decisions, including the possibility of keeping him beyond the initial two years depending on performance and fit.
This development follows a February 27 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, after which the team had indicated opportunities for younger players to contribute. The Mavericks now have a longer-term decision to make on Nembhard with the 2026-27 team option in place.
