Kelly Oubre Jr. vented at referee Scott Foster midway through the second quarter of Philadelphia’s 126-111 loss to New Orleans, an outburst captured by on-court audio. The 12-year NBA veteran can be heard saying, “I wasn’t cursing, I said you’re a horrible ref,” addressing Foster as Pelicans free throws were incoming. This incident adds to Oubre’s history of controversy with officials. In 2019, while with the Phoenix Suns, he was fined for inappropriate language toward an official, and during the 2023-24 season he faced a separate $50,000 fine following an outburst after a no-call in a loss to the Los Angeles Clippers. Oubre is in his fifth NBA season with Philadelphia, after stints with Washington, Golden State, and Charlotte, and he has evolved into a key contributor for the Sixers, averaging about 14 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game this season.

The Sixers have been struggling of late, dropping four straight games and sitting sixth in the Eastern Conference, 12.5 games behind the first-place Detroit Pistons. With 26 games remaining, Philadelphia has an opportunity to climb the standings as the playoff push continues.
